Sitges is a Spanish town about 35 kilometers southwest of Barcelona, culturally renowned worldwide for its Annual Film Festival and Carnival. Located between the Garraf Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, Sitgesis also well-known for its beaches, nightspots, and historical sites.
While the roots of Sitges’ artsy reputation date back to the late 19th century when Catalan painter Santiago Rusinol took up residence here during the summer, the town became a center for the 1960s counterculture in mainland Spain and became known as “Ibiza in miniature”.
Today it is a popular destination for modern travelers, who come from around the world to enjoy its beautifully-preserved architecture, marvel at its 17 pristine beaches (yes, 17), and soak up the ambiance of one of the most gay-friendly places in the world.
